WHO KNEW!?
Did YOU?
August 28th marks a very special day in celebrating black history? Filmmaker and award winning director Ava DuVerney was commissioned by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) to create an exclusive orientation film. She chose to focus on a date that had fascinated her for many years. August 28th. She is quoted in an interview with Gayle King as saying, "August 28 tells so much about black history through the lens of one date."
This year we will celebrate AUGUST 28TH in a special and meaningful way.

The World Health Organization defines health as a state of COMPLETE physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition.

With the economic decline and moving from an industrial/manufacturing economy to a digital/information based economy communities like East Cleveland, Collinwood, and Glenville have been dramaticially impacted. These communities that once thrived with jobs, middle class incomes and quality education are now faced with blight, high unemployment, and challenges to education. Despite all that has taken place we continue to see beautiful, resonant lives, families, and stories of resilience and strength. Through My Eyes is a vehicle to celebrate these stories and the hope that they birth. Through My Eyes is a community event being held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 12pm - 4pm celebrating the artist within students, families, residents, and community members that create community on purpose by capturing the current state of what they see and envisioning a brighter future.
In partnership with Neighborhood Leadership Institute, Pipeline Counseling, Affirmed Missions, & Ministry of Reconciliation's Adopt-A-School Network Through My Eyes invites the community to attend and/or view and vote on submissions during the 8/28/2021 celebration.
